"What's up guys, just wanted to start a discussion today about the DAO dilemma and forking protocols. Specifically, I'm thinking about whether it should be a hard or soft decision. Should devs have the final say in creating a new protocol chain or should the community be able to opt-in/out at will?"

"I think the DAO debacle showed us that soft forking, when done right, can be the way to go. It allows for a controlled transition while still being able to update the protocol without sacrificing community support. Hard forking, on the other hand, can lead to major rifts within the community."

I'm on the fence about this one. Forking protocols should be a soft decision, as it allows for more flexibility and adaptability in times of crisis, preventing hard forks that could split the community. In hindsight, The DAO debacle could've been resolved with a soft fork and saved Ethereum a lot of headache.
