Title: Re: DIY Cloud on a Budget: Can You Build a Reliable Server for Under $500?

Hey guys, I've been playing around with building my own mini-server at home, and I think I've finally figured out a sweet spot for a reliable DIY cloud setup under $500. I've put together a thread on Reddit about this topic but thought I'd start a new discussion here since y'all seem like a more tech-savvy bunch.

I've settled on a combo of an old i3, 8GB of RAM, and a 250GB SSD, which I think should handle web hosting, email, and maybe even some light filesharing. Thoughts?

"Been there done that, guys. I built a basic cloud server with an old Ryzen 5, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB NVMe drive for under $400. Now it's hosting a few small websites and doing the job with some tweaking."

"Yea, I threw together a homebrew server last year for around $300 using a retired Ryzen 5 and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Got it set up with a NAS, Plex, and Nextcloud, and it's been rock solid. Anyone have experience with these cheap Intel NUCs for cloud builds?"
